NOSE INTO ART     2009

Le Lieu, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada

Videography JULIE FIALA

THIS IS A WORKSHOP performance.

Three performance artists, Helene Lefebvre, Julie Fiala and myself, agreed to spend some time off from the fun and games of the Christmas holidays to spend even more fun and games in a two-day, self-directed performance workshop.

Julie is a member of Le Lieu, an artist run center, in Quebec City.

or the workshop, she was able to get permission for the use of the exhibit room and all the facilities in this space that also houses the offices of Inter, an art publication and RIAP (Rencontre Internationale d'Art Performance de Québec), an internationally well-regarded performance art bienniale.

In this exercise, we were to explore actions that would introduce or highlight a body part or parts, either one's own or somebody else's.

   I decided introduce my nose.

Squat as it is, it likes to get itself into a lot of things. Art. Performance Art. Etc.

At this time, it wanted to get into the two stackable wooden chairs that were behind one the show windows of the gallery space. Could they be art? There was no exhibit at that time, the gallery was mostly empty, but these were arranged in a very formal manner. Even if they were arranged differently, the question could still arise.

   Especially for the nosey.
