STANLEY PARK WINTER OFFERING   2014

Stanley Park

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Videography LUZ GERMAIN-LUMAGBAS

THE PERFORMANCE ART WORLD is small.

It is not rare for groups or individual artists to call up each other, sometimes out of the blue, and ask how about a performance. Impromptu, or almost.

In the middle of last winter (2014), I received a call; how about a performance?

In winter? Outdoors? Really? Why not?

So, Helene Lefebvre and myself, the remaining active members of Traffic, together with another artist, Julie Fiala of the Grand Prairie Regional College in Alberta, out west, and a group in Québec City, east of us, Le Tas Invisible, did simultaneous performances.

Guy Sioui Durand, also of Québec City also did an action along the Riviere St. Charles.

The wonders of tech was supposed to connect us and have us witness each others performances.

But tech was less than wonderful this time.

Still, we went ahead. The others did as well.

This piece is in memory of my first winter in school, in the U.S.

The cafeteria, I soon found out, had two huge freezers full of generic brand ice-cream. Free for the taking.

So, I took. A huge full bowl after the meal, and another one to take back to the dorm, which I ate along the way.

For the next few days this was my routine.

The best way, I learned, to wean one of out something.

So, to that experience, this offering.
