THIS IS THE FIRST performance event with Trafic, a Gatineau-based performance art collective that used to be called FaitMaison.

   “OnStage/OffStage” was the title and theme of this event. For this piece I borrow from Gregor Samsa, a Franz Kafka character.

   This piece works with the idea or what most people think to be the reality of control. Or, the lack thereof. This then plays into the event theme which is a concept from theater.

   On stage, I do nothing but hold up a remote control, the embodiment of 'my control.'

   Off stage is a video of myself going about with a slices of everyday life and trying to exert control with a remote control. This video is projected at a screen on-stage.

   The video footage ends at the venue site attempting to wake up my 'on-stage' self, which, when the video ends and the focus of the audience is drawn back on stage, is actually no longer there, save for the remote control and the travel box.

   In this documentation, the video is the footage shown offstage. The slideshow, or the still photographs, are of the onstage performance.
